Frenectomy

frenectomy (also known as a frenulectomy) is simply the removal of a frenulum, a small muscle pull.  Depending on its position in the mouth frenum could prevent the upper front teeth from coming close together creating an unpleasant front midline space (maxillary labial frenum), cause recession and or pockets o the lower front teeth (mandibular labial frenum) or prevent wide range of motion for the tongue (lingual frenum).  Surgical alteration and repositioning of the muscle insertion is called frenectomy.

At Andover Periodontics, we perform frenectomy using a soft tissue laser to create a faster and more comfortable patient experience as well as promote easier recovery with decreased healing time.
